Dorgival Guedes

Associate Professor, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

"I will provide a general description of the Europe Brazil Collaboration of Big Data Scientific Research through Cloud-Centric Applications (EUBra – BigSea) and discuss how it can benefit the Cloud Connect Community."

Dorgival Guedes received his PhD from the University of Arizona, Tucson, in 1999. He also holds a BSEE and an M.S. in Computer Science from UFMG. He is an Associate Professor of the Computer Science Department at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil and was a Visiting Scholar at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) and the University of California, Berkeley, during 2011.
His research interests include Computer Networks, Distributed Systems and Operating Systems, specially where they relate to the scalability of globally distributed applications, including areas such as Cloud Computing, Big-Data, and Software Defined Networks. Recent results in this area include Gatekeeper and DC-Portals, systems designed to isolate traffic in virtualized multitenant datacenters, and Anthill and Watershed, programming frameworks to implement distributed applications under the filter-stream programming model. More recently, he is studying the challenges and opportunities in the integration of big-data systems and the cloud environment.
