Renato Cerqueira

IBM Research, Brazil

I will be glad to share with the Cloudspace Brazil community our experience with and vision for a new generation of Cloud technologies that can enable high-value applications in the Cloud and help to transform how industries do their business.

Renato Cerqueira joined IBM Research Brazil in September 2011. He is senior research manager of the Natural Resources Solutions area, which aims at addressing the scientific and technical challenges of the Natural Resources industry by developing cohesive solutions that combine data- and physically-driven analytics with mathematical optimization techniques built on top of flexible, resilient and integrated platforms based on cloud and high performance resources.

As a senior scientist at IBM Research, he investigates new software technologies for systems development, integration and operation, applied to natural resources and smart cities industries. Renato is particularly interested in new technologies and approaches to speed up the development, deployment and integration of natural resources systems, as well as to improve the end-user interaction with these systems.

Since 2002, Renato is professor of Computer Science at PUC-Rio, Brazil. From 1993 to 2011, he was researcher at Tecgraf/PUC-Rio, and the research leader of its Distributed Systems Engineering Group, conducting several R&D projects with partners from industry and academia. He received his PhD (2000) and MSc (1996) degrees in Computer Science and his Computer Engineer degree from PUC-Rio. During 2001, he was Visiting Researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
